Out and About Snack Ideas

At the clinic, we are all about planning and setting yourself up for success. So when you’re out an about, you want to make sure you have enough snacks on hand, so you’re not tempted to grab less healthy options while on the run.

Out & About

  • Bliss balls (try the below LifeShape recipes)
  • Air popped popcorn or chickpea nuts – portion these into containers or snap lock bags once a week during your meal prep, and you always have a little bag of snacks to grab on the way out the door
  • Vegie sticks – spend a few minutes the night before you know you’ll be out and about to chop some carrots, capsicum and celery
  • Fruit – nothing beats a whole piece of fruit as a quick go to snack. Choose options that travel well like apples, bananas or mandarins so you don’t end up with juice throughout your bag! Grapes work well, portioned into small containers
  • LifeShape meal replacement bars – if you keep a few of these in your bag you always have a go-to snack
  • Muffins or granola bars – if you make a batch of muffins or bars, you can keep them portioned in the freezer, ready to grab, pop one your bag and it will be thawed by the time you’re ready to eat it (try the below LifeShape recipes)

What if you’re caught without?

Sometimes you might get caught out, or just forget to grab a snack on the way out the door. Below is a list of grab and go items you might be able to locate at the supermarket, or a convenience store:

  • Crackers and tuna – there are a range of great lunch kits nowadays with a few crackers and tuna to go. Make sure to check the labels and seek out varieties where the tuna is in natural spring water, or a variety without too much added salt or sugars in the flavourings
  • Many petrol stations and convenience stores are starting to stock fresh fruit – often located on the counter, grab one of these instead of reaching for a muffin
  • Look for single serve low fat yoghurt or fruit cups that come with a serving spoon
